Mitchell,
You have this file listed as a P40b. The model in the photo is definately a 
P40D, or later, variant. The easiest way to tell (head on) is the shape of 
the air intake above the spinner. The P40 A-C had a round air intake, while 
the D and later varients had a flattened rectangular air intake opening, 
(some P40 varients had no air intake openings above the spinner at all).

I think you will find the file name is just to 
differentiate it from other P-40 photos.
